#GPRepost,#reposter,#notetag @natgeo via @GPRepostApp ======> @natgeo:Photograph by @paulnicklen // So the long journey begins for emperor penguins as they begin to travel the six miles between the open sea and their hungry chicks. Walking does not come easy for these flightless birds that can weigh as much as 100 pounds. At four feet tall, they travel much more efficiently on their bellies where I watched them reach the colony from the sea in around an hour. These birds are nothing short of miraculous!! They patiently climb icy obstacles and travel around large tabular icebergs that are trapped in the sea ice in order to offload the contents of their bellies into their anxious chicks. To see how they travel along on their bellies in single file, please #followme on @paulnicklen // I am now en route, back to Antarctica on an expedition of discovery and exploration. @sea_legacy and @natgeopristineseas // #follow #journey #penguin #antarctica #instagood #ice #climatechangeisreal #nature #naturelovers #tbt #love #beauty
